This webinar will examine the evolving role of cardiovascular imaging in preventive care. Faculty will review the strengths and limitations of traditional risk prediction models and discuss how imaging modalities may improve risk classification, particularly in intermediate-risk patients. Evidence supporting coronary artery calcium scoring and plaque assessment will be presented, along with practical considerations for implementation in clinical practice.

Dr. Dharmesh Patel

Dharmesh Patel, MD, FASPC, is a faculty member at the Stern Cardiovascular Center in Memphis, TN. He is the Director of the Stern Cardiovascular Lipid Clinic and Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation at Baptist Desoto Hospital in Southaven, Mississippi.

Dr. Patel is the Governor-Elect for ACC for the state of Mississippi and Treasurer for the Southeast chapter of the National Lipid Association. He is a past National Board member of the American Society for Preventive Cardiology and is board-certified in seven different disciplines, including by the American Board of Clinical Lipidology, and is a certification specialist in clinical hypertension for the American Society of Hypertension. He serves as a Clinical Professor of Cardiology at the Baptist University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Memphis.

Dr. Patel is a past chairman of the American Heart Association Executive Leadership Committee, Memphis Division, and has served on the Southeast Board of Directors for the American Heart Association. He is the current President of PACH – Partnership to Advance Cardiovascular Care, a nonprofit advocacy organization.

Dr. Michael Blaha

Dr. Michael J. Blaha, MD, MPH, is Professor of Cardiology and Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins, where he serves as Director of Clinical Research for the Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease, Director of the Cardiometabolic Clinic, and Program Director for the Preventive Cardiology Fellowship. His clinical interests focus on primary and secondary prevention with emphasis on early intervention in patients with advanced subclinical atherosclerosis detected by cardiac CT. Dr. Blaha earned his BS at the University of Notre Dame (2001) and his MD/MPH from Vanderbilt University (2006). He completed his Internal Medicine residency and Cardiology fellowship at Johns Hopkins. In 2018, he received the Dr. Fred Brancati Award for excellence in mentoring, having mentored over 30 trainees. In 2021, he was named to the Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher List (top 1% globally) and to the Baltimore Magazine Best Doctors List. In 2022, he received the Arthur S. Agatston Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Award.
